This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Southern Victoria Skate Club, a non-profit organization which is dedicated to promoting safe skating with the town’s youth. Monday, March 17th marked the last practice for the season for the club. The Perth Elks Club had pledged to donate $350 to the program, and Elks members met with the team on Monday to deliver the funds.

Not only does the SV Skate Club help kids learn to skate, it also provides a safe environment for kids to exercise, socialize and develop skills other than skating that will be useful throughout their lives.
The kids learn the value of team work, gain self -confidence and become more socially competent through participation in the program.

The skate club is open to kids aged three on up through high school graduation, and the skate club organization is dedicated to making the club a success each and every year.

The practice sessions are held on Monday afternoons throughout the season from 3:30 to 6 PM.

Karen Grant, a professionally trained instructor from Skate Canada, coaches the kids in the club. Jessica Pickard is the skate club president, Della Bishop is the secretary and Donna Shirley is the treasurer.
Registration for next season will be held in October, with skate practice beginning in November.

At the end of each season the club puts on a skate show for the community….this year’s show was based on the movie “Frozen” with scenes from the film turned into a variety of musical skating skits with parts for everyone. It was a lovely show which gave each and every member of the club an opportunity to shine on the ice!
