Put on your long johns and big boots and come celebrate the 46th year of Winter Carnival in Perth-Andover! The carnival begins February 7th and runs through the 13th.
Winter Carnival originated with a Carnival Queen Pageant that was brought to life by Karen Titus. The first pageant was held at the old arena in Perth, and the pageant winner was crowned Winter Carnival Queen.
At some point, this celebration of local talent and beauty morphed into the Miss Perth-Andover Pageant that we have today.

In addition to the Miss Perth-Andover Pageant, this year’s carnival has some dynamite festivities on the menu for our enjoyment.
The Gentlemen’s Carnival Cup Hockey Tournament will be played February 7-9. There is still room for more teams to register, and there are cash prizes for First and Second Place. Call 273-4845 to register your team. No carded players though, please!

Family Fun Day will be held at Veteran’s Field starting at 11 am on Saturday morning, February 8th. Weather permitting, of course, there will be a huge siding hill, an outdoor rink and a bon fire to warm your tootsies!
There will be free hot chocolate, and all the ingredients needed to make S’mores at the bonfire.
Serge Savard and his team of horses will be on hand to take folks on free sleigh rides in the snow. This delightful and classic winter event is sponsored by Scotiabank.
Be sure also to visit Jennifer Boyd to take advantage of her fantastic artistic talents to get your face painted for the carnival.

If you feel a mite peckish, and need more than S’mores to keep your energy up, there will be plenty of other food. Check out the barbecue for some tasty grilled eats, and Tiffany’s Mini Donuts will be on hand as well.
Sugarmoon Cookhouse will be doing free taffy in the snow, and be sure to check it out as New Brunswick chainsaw sculptor Joel Palmer, of Swamp Bear Art Fame, presents a live demonstration of his carving technique. Joel will be bringing a huge 3 foot by 6 foot log to work on, and will be carving a giant racoon before our very eyes! Even better, you have a chance to win this fabulous original work of art….tickets for the sculpture will be $5 each or you can buy 5 for $20.
The draw date for the raffle for this original racoon sculpture will be on Valentine’s Day February 14.

Racoon is one of the most adaptable animals, and if you have racoon as a totem he can, as the “masked bandit”, teach you how to become more dexterous at the masks that you wear in your daily life. Racoon holds the knowledge of how to change our faces. Do you need to present a different face to people for greater success? Are you hiding your true self? Racoon magic can help you find the answers… Something to think about when you buy your racoon sculpture raffle tickets!

After romping in the snow during Family Fun Day, you might want to head indoors for a little more grown-up entertainment. There’ll a fun filled evening playing “Minute To Win It” in the RVCC Recreation Room beginning at 9 PM on Saturday, February 8.

As adult beverages will be available, this event is for ages 19 and over. There will be live music featuring Dave Andersen, and lots of prizes to win that have been donated by our generous local business community! Come test your skills at the crazy feats you’ll be asked to perform in 60 seconds or less in order to win.
Can you stack 3 golf balls in under a minute? Do the Hanky Panky by emptying a tissue box in under a minute using one hand? Playing Minute To Win It is a real social icebreaker….it’s pretty hard to be stuffy and proper when you’ve got one minute or less to accomplish a crazy task!
There’s a $5 cover charge per person for this event.

The Queen’s Tea will be held on Sunday at noon, and the Miss Perth-Andover Pageant will be held Monday night at 7 PM at the Southern Victoria High School. ($5 cover to attend the event.)
Eleven lovely and talented young women are entered in the pageant this year who will be displaying an array of talents including singing, dancing, figure skating, archery, guitar, flute, photography, reciting an original short story and a demonstration of sign language.

Celebrate winter with friends and family at the 2014 Perth-Andover Winter Carnival!
