An open letter to Mike Allen MP Tobique-Mactaquac And concerned citizens:

Nancy Hutkin of Aroostook contacted us at the Blackfly Gazette to ask us to publish this letter. She describes issues that concern all of us living in rural New Brunswick.

One of our missions here at the BFG is to help spark discussions, dialog and, hopefully, action concerning the challenges our rural communities are currently faced with.
Do you have any ideas, input or solutions to share? Please write or call us!
Remember, we’re all in this together and by acting like a team we can save ourselves!

This issue I find quite distressful:

One of our Red Hat Ladies has a medical issue and is not being given her required services. Last Christmas JC had to have her leg removed due to complications from her diabetes. Since JC is a large person and has a wide wheelchair she was refused a place in the Care Home.
I have worked in many care homes with patients of all body types and no one should be refused because of the care home being inadequately equipped for a patient.
Perth-Andover promised a new up-to-date care home and never delivered!

The old care home is drafty and the rooms are cold. The doors are too small for large wheelchairs and the bathrooms are way too small for any wheelchairs.
As the population of Perth-Andover and surrounding communities consists of many seniors the new care home is a necessity! This situation puts a strain on home care workers who will be put at risk for accidents on the job.

Kindly consider building a new care home.

Another issue:
Perth-Andover has a clean, well- organized and well run hospital without a surgical unit and without a needed surgeon. Hotel Dieu services a large northwestern rural NB population. Driving to Waterville is not really fair to this population.
Kindly reconsider this as well.

When eating your food think of the farmers who work to put that food on your table. Be kind to the farming community. Do not destroy the land, rivers and watersheds!
Wind and solar power are less harmful to the land. Generations to come will pay for the inefficient
