DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue isn’t a shelter.  Although we do have a certain amount of cats and kittens “in-house”, the majority of our rescued cats, and all the dogs, are in foster homes.  Unfortunately, our numbers are greater than the space we have and the foster homes at the moment.

“We have been inundated with strays – both dogs and cats – and have to move some of our healthy ones in order to make room for the sick and injured who need to come in,” explained Martha Allison of DunRoamin’.  “As a result, adoption fees have been waived for the six cats; Joplin, Cancel, Dancer, Griselda, Tracey and Kringle to help them find loving homes.  They are all beautiful cats who are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia and feline immuno-deficiency virus and treated for parasites.”

“The rate of new arrivals is not slowing down.  On August 27th, DunRoamin’ had taken in 24 cats that month.  All were sick or injured except the batch of nine kittens who were abandoned at our building,” she said.

She described some of the injuries the cats have sustained due to abuse, neglect or just being on their own and fending off dangers.  “We had a cat with a broken back, two kittens thrown from cars whose lips were torn off and teeth broken out, a kitten whose diaphragm was ripped from his chest wall and his liver pushed up where his heart should be, an old dog who was caught in some brambles way back in the woods – took a half-hour to free her – and she was matted three to four inches thick all over her body, was starving and dehydrated, couldn’t see…it just goes on and on,” said Martha.  “At least they will have a chance now though.  Anyone interested in adopting a loving pet will have a wide choice of great cats and dogs.”

Joplin, Cancel, Dancer, Griselda, Tracey and Kringle have all been with us for a long time, some as far back as 2011.  All six are ready for new homes.

Their Stories…

Tracey arrived at DunRoamin’ on August 22, 2011 from Tracey Mills where she had been found wandering all alone. She was wearing a white flea collar that was very tight around her neck, she was loaded with fleas, and she was very thin.
She was already spayed, so she had once had a family somewhere. Her rescuer tried to find them, but was unable to locate them.

Tracey is a loving cat, who obviously had been part of a household somewhere. She’s just about two years old, and would love to find her family or a new home.

Cancel came to DunRoamin’ on May 30, 2011. She was one of three mother cats who had been living with their collective 11 kittens in Mainstream under the unoccupied home of a man who was undergoing cancer treatment in Saint John. They had no one to care for them.
They were all healthy and the moms were beautiful, loving and affectionate. Had they not been accepted by DunRoamin’ their futures would have been short and bleak and all would have continued to contribute to the growing number of unwanted strays.
Cancel is still hoping to find a home for herself!

Griselda came from Woodstock in August of 2011. She is a friendly and loving cat who is at least 10 years old. She’s currently at the Florenceville Clinic, but would love to go to a foster home or maybe even a forever home!

Dancer is one of 3 cats and 12 kittens that were rescued from a barn near Hartland. They were enclosed in a shed and were hungry and thirsty. Most had ear mites, fleas and worms and appeared to be from 3 families.
Dancer was the mother of 4 little girls, all of who have now found homes.
Dancer has come a long way from the frightened and timid girl she was when she arrived. She now loves to be cuddled and plays like a kitten. She would love to be part of a loving family.

Joplin came to DunRoamin’ in May of 2011 from Debec where Dr Shannon Monteith noticed her as a pregnant stray running loose. She picked her up, realizing that she needed help.
Just a few hours later, she gave birth to 6 little kittens who have all found loving homes. Joplin is still waiting for her turn.
She’s friendly and affectionate and enjoys attention. She would love to lay in your lap while you work on your computer, watch TV or read a book!
