I-LEAN

Beautiful I-Lean with Siamese Eyes
Beautiful I-Lean with Siamese Eyes
Well, surprisingly, I have a new favourite cat! I don’t take this admission lightly, but this little stray has inspired my admiration, as others have, with her strong will to live, her strength under adversity and her trust and acceptance of us – her proud caretakers and ardent admirers.

This little survivor was driven to us from Debec where a young man noted her injuries and having never seen her before, took his morning to find help for her. (Thank you!)

When he arrived with her, leaving a substantial donation to assist with her medical care, he was clearly upset at the damage done to her (as were we) but he had started her on the road to recovery by finding her the help she needed.

This little calico tabby with the crossed eyes that goes with royal blood in her veins (Siamese) was very dehydrated, emaciated and had a high fever. Two inches of bone in one hind leg was exposed and covered with dirt. Still, she trustingly allowed us to examine her and treat her to stabilize her condition. In such terrible medical condition, this tough little cat, less than a year old, allowed us to treat her and then she used every bit of our assistance to become strong enough to make the necessary leg amputation feasible. That behind her, she has put her mind to recovering and becoming healthy again. Then, the second blow! The little fighter, now called I-Lean, has feline leukemia, a virus which is not treatable, and which is transmissible to other cats. This means that when she is healthy she cannot live with other cats, unless they, too, carry this virus, so as not to spread it to others. This severely limits her possibilities for a home.

This makes me incredibly sad! But, like I-Lean, who hasn’t given up, we won’t either. We know that there is a home out there for such an amazing little cat whose short life has been so hard – and we won’t stop until we find it!

Meanwhile, we’ll keep her comfortable and happy. That’s easy. She just needs her favourite food and plenty of chin rubs and petting. Oh, and I have to carry her around the clinic for a half hour every day, letting her look at the other patients and holding her up to look out the window so she can see the cows. I don’t mind, I get well rewarded with purrs and kneading front feet. She is so cute!
Then I fix her bed, put the bed warmer in and tuck my little friend into her little bed. Goodnight, I-Lean!
