Pet Tails

“The Queen”
“The Queen”
have always wondered why people get pets just to leave them outside. Even those that are properly fed and housed miss so much by not getting attention from the humans that have taken on the responsibility of caring for them. Not only do the poor animals miss out but so do the people that withhold their affection. Pets all have such unique personalities. They should be enjoyed. I enjoy the personalities of 2 dogs and 4 cats.

One of the cats in my house has a bit of an attitude. After a tough start in life, her luck changed. She met the kind people at the DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue. They made her well and introduced her to me. It didn’t take her long after I brought her home to realize she had found the place that suited her personality perfectly. You see, she considers herself the “queen” of the house. She is not the kind, “wave to the crowd” type queen either. My queen is the “off with their heads” type. That is, with her four legged subjects. With her two legged subjects she is the kindest queen ever.

One of the queen’s feline subjects, another DunRoamin’ rescue is a tuxedo wearing, slightly overweight aristocrat who stomps around totally ignoring pretty much everyone, even the queen! A couple of times each day I am granted the privilege of holding him while he purrs. I think he is reminding me that once upon a time he was my only cat. Another of the queen’s subjects is an immigrant. He came to us from Ontario. The queen doesn’t care for him much. He tried cuddling with her shortly after he moved in. The queen “was not amused!” He now gives her the respect she insists on! The last subject is somewhat of a rebel. She doesn’t care if the queen likes her or not. She came to our home with gusto and keeps us all on our toes. The day she came was a good day for the immigrant. She likes to cuddle too.

The queen also thinks the dogs are hers to rule. The oldest and smallest dog would disagree if asked. In her mind she is the queen. Fortunately, the dog queen is confident enough in her superiority to allow the cat queen to think whatever she likes. However, the youngest and biggest dog in the queendom has totally surrendered to the cat queen. She gives her a very wide berth. I would too if I got a swap anytime I got close.

I can’t imagine how dull my life would be without my pets. Try it, you might like it!
