P-A Historical Society Museum Grand Opening
Stephanie Kelley
The P-A Museum threw a little barbecue bash on June 28th to celebrate their Grand Opening in 2014.
It was a perfect summer day, with a shining sun, a gentle breeze and no bugs or rain! Lots of people dropped by to schmooze and grab a hot dog as they explored the museum and signed the guest book.
The museum has more reason to celebrate this year as it sports a face lift with its new roof and a shiny fresh coat of paint on the outside. Inside the museum, visitors will find that volunteers have done a fantastic job of cleaning the interior of the museum and organizing all the exhibits.
The Historical Society has some fun and educational events planned for the rest of the season.
The Perth-Andover Genealogy Group meetings will commence on Tuesday, July 8th at the museum at 2 pm.
The hour long meetings will continue to be held once a week and will be held in rotation at the museum, the P-A Public Library and the RVCC for the rest of the summer from 2-4 pm.
If you have a yen to learn more about your own family roots in the area the Genealogy Society has a terrific archive of records and data, including lots of Aboriginal records going back many years.
Upcoming events will include a Tea for Senior Ladies in which they will be invited to discuss the laundry practices they remember.
The museum has a collection of old washers and laundry equipment, including a fantastical looking vintage steam iron that has its own little boiler attached! The ladies will have a chance to reminisce about the not so good old days of doing laundry by hand!
Other special occasions are planned for all age and interest groups as well.
Drop in to visit our past and find out more about upcoming events!
