Fly Season Begins…

The first few flybites of the season are the nastiest, for me, anyway…my body has just spent the winter (a really freaking long winter, too!) without having to fire up the ol’ immune system, so the first bites I get tend to swell up to the size of half a golf ball. Maybe a tennis ball. Anyway, I’m sure you get my drift.
Because commercial fly dope is full of toxic chemicals, and I hate the smell, I try to always use natural products to repel the flies and mosquitoes. But, as anyone who has ever been in the deep woods in New Brunswick knows, our bloodsucking insects laugh at most fly dope products anyway!
Marty’s Electric in Perth-Andover has a new fly repellent in stock called Mozi-Q that you just might want to try.
Mozi-Q is a homeopathic formula that you take orally that promises to keep the critters at bay. It is designed to make people, or pets, who take the formula less susceptible to being bitten. And, if they do get a few bites the symptoms will be reduced.
The formula contains five homeopathic remedies in a tablet that you chew. Mozi-Q is non-toxic, gluten and lactose free and safe for kids over one year old and your pets. Mozi-Q was created by Erin Bosch, who owns a homeopathic clinic in Calgary. Her clients reported that her formula to calm bite irritation was also keeping the bugs away, so she began producing it commercially. Mozi-Q takes effect within 30 minutes of chewing a tablet, and then you take it every 3-5 hours.
How well does it work? I don’t know yet, but Marty let me have a tablet to try it out the next time I go out into the woods.
