Athabasca Media is a state of the art multi-media production house tucked away in a quaint little cottage studio in Craig’s Flat.
Last January, the Digital Dudes at Athabasca Media produced the 10th Annual Gold Star Awards for screen presentation for the Fort McMurray Tourism Gala that was held at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre in Fort McMurray.
Most people think of oil and tar sands when they think of Fort McMurray, but there is booming service sector employed in the region and the Annual Gold Star Awards is like the Grammy Awards for service workers….it recognizes excellence in the hospitality, tourism, transportation and customer service sector in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
The customer service sector includes restaurant staff, bank tellers, chefs, bartenders…anyone and everyone who works to serve the public. Regular people!
The ceremony is an interactive awards presentation that is full of glitz and glamour. Nominees are recognized for who they are and for their contributions to their respective industries.
The Gold Star Awards is one of the most anticipated events held each year in Fort McMurray since its inception in 2004. Over 300 people spent an evening enjoying dining and entertainment.
Athabasca Media has produced 9 of the past 10 years of the on screen awards and narration.
R.J. McNichol and Ron Hill are the Digital Dudes who operate the Athabasca Media. It is an independently owned and operated multi-media production house creating innovative solutions for the industrial, tourism, museum and educational sectors as well as audio production services for broadcast and internet radio station in Canada and around the globe.
Formerly residents in Fort McMurray, R.J. and Ron relocated to Craig’s Flat a couple of years ago, drawn by the natural beauty and resources of New Brunswick.
In addition to their studio productions, they are in the process of building an aquaponics fish farm. They grow an organic garden, and have an impressive system set up to collect rain water.
