Petey’s Peregrinations
Stephanie Kelley
Jennifer and Jason thought they had a cat named Petey, but as it turned out, Petey had much bigger ideas….
Petey came to live with the couple in their apartment at Victoria Villa when he was a wee kitten during the summer of 2012. He quickly became a Villa Community favourite, roaming the halls and visiting all of the residents whenever he felt like it.
He still slept at home, though, and gave every appearance of being a family pet so Jennifer and Jason were totally unprepared for what happened when they moved to the new home they built on the hill: Petey became heartbroken.
Jennifer explained that he only stayed in their beautiful new home for one weekend, during all of which he spent crying. She’d come home from work and find him sitting in the middle of the basement floor yowling with what could only be described as grief.
Petey missed his peeps at the Villa and he by golly let everyone know about it!
After a weekend of this, Jennifer got the message loud and clear and so she loaded Petey into the car and headed back to the Villa. She says he seemed to know exactly where they were going…he immediately quit crying and stood with his front paws on the dash staring out the window with his whiskers quivering with excitement.
When she pulled into the Villa parking lot he promptly ran inside like he was coming home….and so he was!
So, now Petey is the official Victoria Villa Mascot. He’s got his own pet door, but he seldom uses it as residents always know when he’s ready to come in as he sets off the motion detector light. He also has his own room, but he spends most of his time travelling around the 11 apartments hanging out with his local possee.
If you stop into Victoria Villa be sure to say hello to Petey!
