Teddy Bears Christmas
The snow was falling lightly
Fluffy flakes fell all around
A magic white-lace carpet
That smothered every sound,
I guess that’s why they didn’t hear me
As I walked thru Wonder Wood
And how I found their Crystal Castle
Where a ‘Secret Shape’ once stood,
They’d come from all the world
In silent single file
Who once, one Christmas morning
Brought pleasure, and a smile,
Out of some stuffy toy-box
One night – to be themselves
Or from a bedroom dresser
Off bottom, top, and middle shelves,
From being locked up in a locker
Forgotten playthings and keepsakes
In some dusty attic chest
Gifts – that time forsakes,
What some Christmas long ago
A child would hold so tight
Lugging tugging everywhere
And to bed, as well, each night,
Teddy Bears that “age” had passed
Had long since been put away
Left alone and lonesome
Or, shut off from light of day,
And now, it was their Christmas
And, although they couldn’t fly
They somehow were transported
Far across an endless sky,
They’d laugh and play … remember
The way it was ‘before’
And each would be so special
The ‘favorite’ once more,
Yet, even as they celebrated
In imagination’s space
Like tinsel and tradition
New ‘Teddy’s’ took their place,
Teddy Bears Christmas
Where dreams and daydreams dwell
But – as to where and when
I promised — not to tell!
