NDP Leaders Visit Perth-Andove
NDP Party leader Dominic Cardy and Senior advisor Brian Duplessis stopped in for a lunch break recently with Carlingford resident Joe Gee.
Joe explained the meeting, “I started getting involved with the community on many different levels. One area in particular was our government. I never really paid much attention until the Progressive Conservatives began closing down our hospitals.”
“Meanwhile, I began to realize that over the past 30 years the people of New Brunswick have been losing millions of dollars of revenue on our Crown forests. I got in touch with filmmaker Charles Theriault, who has been working on a documentary regarding the usage of New Brunswick Crown forests.”
Joe went on to explain how he had organized a presentation for Charles to come to Perth-Andover to speak about these issues last spring. He had a chance to meet Dominic, through Charles, at a Conservation Council Award presentation held in Fredericton.
Dominic and his wife Margot later attended the ‘Is Our Forest Really Ours” presentation that Charles hosted in Perth.
Joe added “The provincial election is just around the corner, and in our riding the PC’s and the New Brunswick Green party each have a candidate, and the Liberals have 3 nominees but there is no NDP candidate in our riding.”
‘It would be nice to see more voting options than what we historically have had, so after a lot of thought, I decided to arrange a meeting with Dominic and interested citizens from our area. Dominic and Brian both came to listen to some of our concerns, and to make plans to further discuss starting up a local association for the NDP Party.”
During lunch, Dominic said, ”We need less government doing more. New Brunswickers are tired of hearing about some great business that is going to save us all without us doing any actual work. Fracking is the latest big magic bullet.”
Brian added, “Our schools and health systems are failing, and these are what people want government to provide. They are looking for jobs, too, of course…but if there is less government interference with private businesses, small businesses can begin to thrive once again.”
