Remembrances
Remembrances
Goldenrods and purple asters
Are among the last to go
With too late black-eyed susans
Standing stiff against the snow,
Hornet’s nests have been prepared
The housefly has found a crack
Crickets now are silent
Firefly’s will not be back,
Forget-me-nots – forgotten
June-bug grubs – a “dig”
Cocoons are honed for winter
Chinks and crimps are big,
Dandelions, daffodils
Damselflys and bees
Buttercups and beetles
This season never sees,
Caterpillars, cattails
Ants deep down in their hill
Witch-hazel’s yellow blossom
Can lift our spirits still,
Just look around/about you
Tho the summer birds have flown
Insects and flowers falter
But now – a beauty all its own,
And as we enjoy ‘now’s’ nature
We think of sacrifice
As we honour men and women
Who served – and paid the price,
Take the time, bring them to mind
This eleventh of November
A salute – a moment’s silence
To touch the torch – Remember!
