Letters, from André Laurion
Dear Editor,
I live along the beautiful Tobique River, in Gladwyn. I have hiked, biked and driven its shores for well over twenty years. This summer, I wanted a change of perspective, so I purchased a 17-foot square-sterned canoe with an outboard motor. I have had a wonderful time seeing the sights from on the water, instead of away beside it.
The first week I had my canoe, in the month of May, I had it lying on my rocky landing (called Poison Ivy Beach) and during a very windy night my canoe and the motor were flipped over in the water. I was able to retrieve and repair my motor, but one of my two paddles had floated away, never to be seen again.
Or so I thought! Imagine my surprise when, in October, I arrived one morning at my canoe to find there, the paddle I had lost so many weeks before!
Through our local paper The Black fly, I extend a sincere thank you to the unknown shrewd neighbour who retrieved this stray paddle and somehow tracked down its source. And while I’m at it, thank you too to all of you, my Tobique neighbours who have made my many years of living here such a joy.
