Kayla Liebe has always loved nail polish, and has done the nails of her family and friends for years.
So, she felt that it only made sense for her to pursue a career as an esthetician. She enrolled last year at the Grand Falls Academy of Esthetics and graduated this past April.
She then took the provincial exam In Fredericton, which is given by the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick.
This test covers both written and practical aspects of esthetics to determine the applicant’s knowledge, and is an all day examination!
Having passed this test, Kayla was now ready to take the step of going into business for herself. She has just opened her studio at Erica’s Hair Care on West Riverside Drive in Andover, and is open for business Monday-Friday 10 am-7pm, Saturdays by appointment.
She offers waxing, a variety of facials and of course manicures and pedicures.
I dropped in right after Kayla’s Grand Opening to take a photo of her new studio and to learn more about her client services.
Shellac is the latest in nail polish technology. It offers a bright and glossy finish, and stays chip free for two weeks, or even longer, but as the nail bed grows it’s advisable not to leave polish on for much longer.
Shellac is cured in two minutes by exposure to a UV lamp, which hardens it and gives it such a long lasting finish.
Regular polish dries by evaporation, which means that your new manicure is not fully cured for two or three hours. I don’t know about you, but I don’t usually have the time or patience to hang around and watch nail polish dry!
Many brides these days are booking an esthetician to do the make-up for the bridal party, or to do manicures or pedicures for the bridal shower.
Make-overs are a popular and fun theme for girl’s parties as well, no matter what age the girls are!
