Local Eatery Delivers Food & Flavour!
One of the great conveniences and joys of city life that I miss the most living here in Perth-Andover is having a delicious meal delivered right to my home. You know, a whole batch of Chinese chow dropped off while I wait in my jammies, or a piping hot pizza.
Out here in the hinterlands, however, one must actually get dressed* and travel if one wants someone else to do the cooking….until Rickie Moulton and his wife Bobbie Looman of Tobique First Nation opened the Outback Smokehouse in April of 2012. This small take-out restaurant delivers to homes in Perth-Andover, Rowena, Tobique First Nation and points in between!
There’s a $5 charge for delivery to Perth, and rates may vary a bit depending on distance to other areas, but hey….5 bucks is a small price to pay to have a meal delivered to your door!
Rickie comes from a food loving family with a passion for all things culinary, and Bobbie has worked for many years in the restaurant industry.
So, it seemed only natural to the couple that they’d start their own food business. They decided to try a small take-out business. Rickie re-purposed a defunct restaurant cooler into a nifty and functional home-made smoker. He uses hickory chips and apple wood to slow smoke beef brisket and pork butt, which in turn becomes genuine pulled pork for sandwiches and even pizza topping.
When they first opened, they only had 4 items on their menu, but their service was so popular that business just took off and they were able to grow over the following months until their menu now offers a variety of oven baked subs, burgers, sandwiches, calzones, wings, quesadillas, nachos, Indian Tacos, poutine….over 25 menu items in all!
They added a pizza oven to their kitchen equipment and now make home-made pizzas with a variety of toppings.
You can order a pizza with traditional toppings, or one of their specialty pizzas such as the pulled pork pizza, or enjoy a white pizza, taco pizza or try BLT pizza.
The pulled pork sandwich is served with their own home-made Grandma’s Outback BBQ Sauce.
They make all of the sandwich buns and pizza dough on the premises, in fact, Bobbie says, they make as many basic ingredients as possible right in their own kitchen.
A very few people come to the Outback to pick up their order, but fully 99% of their business is delivery, so it was obviously an idea whose time had come!
If you have a yen for some tasty food to be delivered to your home give the Outback Smokehouse a call at 477-8252
They are open for business and delivering meals Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4 pm until 11 pm, and they are open from 11:30 am until 11 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
(* Actually, it seems that these days you see a lot people out and about running their errands wearing pyjama bottoms!)
Bon Appetit!
