A Long Time Ago

When I was five
And running to and fro
Learning how to walk
Was – a long time ago,
When she was “a beauty”
And had her first beau
Learning ’bout love
Was – a long time ago,
When he breathed baseball
And practiced how to “throw”
And his Big League game
Was – a long time ago,
When the old millionaire
Surrounded by his dough
Reminiscing how his youth
Was – a long time ago,
Way back when farming
Was a “hard row to hoe”
But his house held laughter
Was – a long time ago,
When they were a family
And life was all aglow
Taking health for granted
Was – a long time ago,
While the aged chief rambled
Remembering buffalo
The past and their passing
Was – a long time ago,
Why the warrior went away
Off to fight the foe
And the day that he died
Was – a long time ago,
When I, in my wisdom
Knew all I didn’t know
The lesson, and the leaving
Was – a long time ago,
When He created everything
A world without woe
When each and all was perfect
Was – a long time ago,
With the end of the Flood
And the first rainbow
His pride and His promise
Was – a long time ago,
Was … a long time ago!
