Biking 2 Be the Change
Kilderic Moroy is making a solo bike journey across Canada to bring awareness to the environmental issues facing us today.
He began his cross country adventure in Vancouver on May 1st and plans to end the journey in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
I met him on day 78 as he took refuge from a thundershower in the Perth-Andover Public Library.
It was Kilderic’s second day in New Brunswick, and he had just passed the 6,400 km mark as he hit Perth.
He is averaging about 130 km per day…. It all depends on the hill grades and wind direction! He is trying to stay on back roads in the interests of both safety and scenery.
Kilderic is traveling light and has been using the Warm Showers hospitality link-up site.
Warm Showers is a free worldwide hospitality exchange for touring cyclists. Folks who are willing to host cyclists sign up and provide info on what they can offer a tired cyclist.
Sometimes it’s just a warm shower, as the name says. But many people also offer a place to camp, a meal, or the chance to wash one’s clothes. Hosts are usually avid bikers themselves so there’s always the opportunity to meet like minded people on a journey.
Kilderic attended a Be The Change workshop in Capilano University last November. Discovering an alignment with his values and feeling inspired by our mission, he took it upon himself to spread our message on his trip across the country.
“I am proud to be Canadian and looking forward to collecting environmental actions from people right across Canada,” says Kilderic. “I hope my commitment will inspire others to take an action for change. It can be as simple as eating less meat, not using plastic bottles, cups or bags, turning off the lights and driving less. One person taking an action can influence many others. It’s time for us all to get involved.”
