From the Editor…

Where to begin, this should have been the first issue of our second year…

I guess I’ll start there, with a great big thank you to everyone who has been following since our inception and during our growth over the last year. Without the support of readers and advertisers none of this would have been possible. I Jonny have decided to push the date back one issue so Stephanie can be involved with the anniversary issue too.

Yes of course our primary writer and editor has had quite a journey the last few weeks. She did manage to write the last issue April 10th looking back now I don’t know how she accomplished it. On April 17th she drove herself to the ER and has been on a rollercoaster ride ever since. She told me to enlighten all the follower’s of her plight.

April 18th she had what was called an Emergency Operation on her bowel, for an obstruction at the time they said was most likely cancerous… WOW what to do? They within 20 minutes of her calling Stacey and I had her in for a major surgery. She pulled through like a trooper and did well for a few days. She ended up having a second surgery April 30th and has been doing much better ever since. Results came back NO CANCER, why a Professional Doctor would ever say that before a biopsy is outright wrong and will be dealt with in due time. Right know it is about getting Stephanie home and healthy.

Over the past few days since I let people know I was going to get this issue out as I was to overwhelmed for the April 22nd issue, support has flowed in for Stephanie and for me “the not writer” type. I have passed on all the well wishes and get well soon messages and she is very thankful to have you all. As of May 4th she was transferred to the main floor and as you read this she should be back home recuperating nicely.
There is a long road ahead but we will triumph.

Speaking of roads it is almost time for home relocations to start again. People have picked their lots, cleared land and built roads to have their houses moved from the threat of flooding by the St. John river. Over the course of this summer the landscape of Perth-Andover is going to change dramatically as home after home is moved.

I hope that we do find a way to repurpose these vacant lots and take advantage of them in an economical way. Just because the river floods doesn’t mean that we don’t love it, as do travellers that stop by the riverfront park all the time as they are passing through. What we need to do is to develop these areas to entice more people to stop here in Perth-Andover and stay a day or two on there journey.

We should soon be hearing back from the Glenn Group consulting firm that has been working on just that “repurposing and revitalizing” Perth-Andover. Once we receive their report our village can develop a long term plan to reuse and grow this village through tourism development and recreational space for all to enjoy the beautiful St. John river. Until that time we were spared by the river this year, she went out as calmly as she roared out last year. Hard to believe how different it was this year.
