Operation Desert Dog Re-Cap
Hi, my name is Martin, or as my current foster family calls me, Valentine. Guess when they brought me home? I’m not sure if I should tell everyone my real name or not. Maybe I’ll just keep them guessing. Besides, they can call me anything they want – I owe them my life!
I came from a bad place in California. My brothers and sisters and I all lived in a small house. It was hard to keep track of everyone but I think there were about 30 of us. We were crowded and grouchy. The house was dirty. It wasn’t our fault since we weren’t always able to “go” outside. We wanted help so bad!
One day a good man called Scotlund Haisley found us. He would help us. There’s this place called Animal Rescue Corp and they help dogs like us all over North America. I’m not exactly sure where that is but I guess Palm Springs was part of it. With the help of many, many other kind people, we found our way to New Brunswick.
It was a long trip but we managed. One of the first people we met when we got to New Brunswick was Dr. Shannon Monteith. Even though she stuck me with a needle, I liked her. I just knew she was a good person who would help us. And I was right. With help from DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue, 7 of us now live in great foster homes with people that only want us to be healthy and happy. Thank you Dr. Monteith! And thank you DunRoamin’!
I’m not worried any more that someone will hurt me. I can lie on the floor and not get filthy. I don’t need to worry that one of my brothers or sisters will have a bad day and fight with me. My scars are fading from body and soul – says Martin the poet. I can sleep on the dog pillows, the couch, the new chair, even the bed! Imagine that? My belly is full all the time. Did I mention I gained 15 pounds? Mmmmmmm, good food here – and so much of it! I take long walks in the woods with my new favourite man and I play in the yard with my two best friends. Well, one best friend and one grouchy little girl dog that thinks she’s the boss. We let her think that…………..
So, from Martin –AKA – Valentine, thank you. Thank you for my life and my new future.
