A visit from a ufo?

One day in August in the year 1982 Gordon Mosher and I were sitting in lawn chairs at the front of my house. Gordon noticed a large brown spot on my lawn about 200 yards from our location.
We went to investigate and discovered a brown circle in the lawn approximately 11 feet in diameter. It appeared as though the grass had been burned.
 
There were three sets of holes forming triangular shapes on the perimeter of the circle.
Each triangle had three holes about one inch in diameter at the apexes. The holes were approximately 12 inches from each other, and the triangles were equally spaced around the perimeter of the circle.
The measurements from the top of one triangle to the other two were all equally spaced.
 

The grass in the circle never recovered and we had to re-seed the area.
I told Chub Howard about the circle and he said skunks can turn lawn brown and dig holes in the ground but he didn’t think they knew how to use a measuring tape!
