In Memory of Millie
Millie was born on May 25, 2005. Her mother, Edie, was a stray rescued by DunRoamin’.
Adopting a dog wasn’t in the cards for Mom and Dad. Millie was an unplanned addition to the family. I had picked one of Edie’s litter a few weeks earlier and on a visit with my puppy Rosie, Dad met Francine, Rosie’s sister. She was the cutest little black ball of fur. The rest, as they say, is history. The day I picked up Rosie, Dad brought his puppy home and renamed her “Millie” after Mildred. Dad thought, what better way to say thank you for a great puppy.
Millie was the perfect dog. She was calm, quiet, and affectionate. Millie did have a few quirks. She was part Border collie and the herding instinct was strong in her. The cat found that out from day one. All things were herded into place and there were no shenanigans like rolling a ball around the floor or cuffing a piece of paper. Not on Millie’s watch! Things needed to be in order. Everything had a place and it was Millie’s job to see that it was done.
After a very short illness, on January 11th, Millie died in the same manner as she lived – calmly and quietly at home. Nothing is quite the same at the house. The cat cuffs a toy or runs across the floor and stops to see why Millie doesn’t stop her. Buster, one of my dogs, still roams the house looking for her.
The only upside of this is now Millie is with Rosie who left us a couple years ago. They can run and play together with Sable and Daisy for eternity.
Good bye Millie, we all miss you.
