Legendary Local Musical Duo Honoured

Kathleen McCarthy & Fred Clark

A group from the Seventh Day Adventist Church recently dropped in on Amos Kelly to present him an award, a plaque in gratitude for all the entertaining he has done over his nearly 80 years of playing music.

It was a total surprise to him and to Kathleen McCarthy, who was also presented with a plaque for all she has done musically with Amos over the past 20 some odd years.

Together, with Amos on accordion and Kathleen on guitar and vocals, the duo have played music in many halls, clubs and of course seniors manors all over New Brunswick and Maine.

They have recorded albums and sold many copies to devoted fans over the years… in fact Kathleen stated “someone called me recently to see if I still had copies for sale”.

Amos’ award was presented by Elder Ernie Smith, whose father had played music with Amos many years ago.

Kathleen’s award was presented by Elder Fred Clark. Also attending was Pastor Adrien Golde, and caretaker Carmin Veitch. After talking and sharing many memories together Pastor Adrien pulled out a violin and played a few tunes to the delight of Amos and Kathleen and everyone else including me, an avid fan of any music.

Amos will be 92 at press time. Unfortunately, he no longer plays music but with 80 years at any hobby there comes a time to hang it up and pass the torch to someone new!

I know many may follow but few will equal what Amos and Kathleen have accomplished over the years. To Amos and Kathleen I say “Thank you, for all the music and memories”.
