ARTS & CRAFTS CENTRE
The new Arts & Crafts Centre in Perth-Andover is getting in new , different and totally fantastic goodies every day. I stopped in recently and was amazed at the wealth and variety of creativity that is on display!
The Centre is a true Art Gallery giving local artisans the opportunity to show their work to the community.
The Centre is also one of Perth-Andover’s newest businesses and it is truly delightful to see a small, local business take off and capture the public imagination.
The centre is in the space that used to be the home of Checkers Pizza and boardwalk Video, both of which were washed away in the infamous flood.
Both businesses are sorely missed by the community, but the space has now come back to life with a whole new character.
If you have not visited the Centre yet, do stop in. You will be able to find a locally made, hand crafted gift for everyone on your list, including yourself!
When you buy locally made goods you are getting a unique item, helping to support a friend and neighbour, and keeping your money in your own community so it can continue to circulate.
When you buy stuff outside of your community, the money is gone forever!
The display of paintings is impressive. There are now original works on display with paintings by Dilys Sabine, Maj Gagnon, Japheth (who has some really eye catching stuff on display….check out “Caveman’s Date”) Joyce Ingraham,Slate Art by Candace (Very neat slate frames) Raymond Bowmaster and Cartland Paul.
There are CD’s recorded by local musicians, including the Negootkoot Drummers from Tobique First Nation.
You will find fabric crafts of all descriptions here as well. There is an absolute abundance of selection of quilts, wall hangings, practical items such as knitted slippers and socks, woven and crocheted dish towel sets …so much I lost track.
I was particularly charmed by Judy MacIntosh’s lovely hand-sewn old fashioned night gowns. Made out of thick and luxurious cotton flannel, these are just the ticket to lounge around in on a frosty New Brunswick night! These are the kind of flannel nighties that just get better and softer with age.
Hand turned wood crafts are available, and be sure to check out the whimsical bird houses that Winslow Chase lovingly creates.
If you are an artisan who would like an outlet for your creations, or if you are simply looking for unique, beautiful and hand crafted items to give as gift or for your own personal use and pleasure please stop into the Perth-Andover Arts & Crafts Centre at 756 Perth Main Street.
