Boss Dog
I don’t want to make light of all the “special skills” dogs in this country. My daughter owned one for many years and he was invaluable to her. However, there isn’t a professionally trained Special Skills Dog in the world that can hold a candle to Buster, my rescued DunRoamin’ stray as a “Supervisor Dog”.
It is uncanny. This dog knows something about everything. He is always right there with his big old head just inches away from whatever job you are doing making sure that it is done correctly. No job is too big or too small for him to give it his undivided attention. Got power tools? He’s comfortable with them all. A bush saw, lawn mower, whipper snipper………….they all get his undivided attention. Vacuuming, dusting, and scrubbing? They all warrant the same attention.
I’ve heard that a sign of a good supervisor is one who is willing to get his or her paws dirty. With Buster, you don’t even have to ask. He is right there, up to his doggie elbows in the mud/soap/cat litter. He never flinches, no matter how dirty a job might be.
Buster is also very generous with his supervisory skills. He will lend out his expertise to family and friends. Just yesterday he helped Mom scrub the floor. I know that she was extremely grateful for his help. Carpentry skills are one of his specialties. Just saw a piece of wood and watch him carry it to a special piling place. You don’t even have to ask. Dad gets regular assistance in the woods with his brush cutting and mowing. Then, after a hard afternoon of being a woods dog, Buster generously offers his assistance as a back seat driver on the ATV. Dad’s shoulder makes a perfect chin rest to see what’s ahead.
I wonder how dull it must be for those of you without your own “supervisor dog” to help with each and every task. Buster can make the most mundane job an adventure. Bed making, pup tent anyone; cleaning the toilet, the possibility of a quick drink is always right around the corner; gardening, a job that includes digging, how fun! The list is endless.
