Saying Goodbye-Saying Hello

cat angelSometimes it seems that we are always having to say goodbye.  So far 2014 has been a year of goodbyes for us.  Some of them have been happy, some bitter-sweet and some of them seriously hard.

We lost a very special dog early on in the year.  Martin came to us as a foster dog from a bad situation.  He wormed his way into our family and we loved him.  We hadn’t officially adopted him but he was ours – no kidding ourselves on that one.  We just hadn’t signed the papers yet.  Sadly he left us too soon and he will miss him forever.

Another goodbye this year was to a senior cat, Ruffie.  Another DunRoamin’ stray that wormed her way into our hearts in spite of her nasty temperament at times.  Ruffie was old and gave into the illnesses that often times affect senior cats.  Although it was expected and we were prepared, it still hurts.

The next goodbyes that we had were less sad.  In fact, they were quite happy.  A group of abandoned dogs found their way living in our family room.  Snow White and her seven dwarves were with us until the puppies grew big and healthy enough for adoption.  One by one they left us.  This time they were going to great homes.  That didn’t stop us from crying!  Snow was the last one to go.  I think I miss her the most.  She was a wonderful dog that deserved the home that she got.

Lastly, we lost another cat unexpectedly.  Morris was a stray from our Nation’s Capitol that found his way to us via a son.  He was a beautiful orange tabby who lost a short battle with cancer too young.  We all miss him and will never forget him.  I’d like to say that he and Ruffie could keep each other company in the afterlife but Ruffie was too nasty!  Morris deserved better.

Fortunately we still have a huge family of adopted and fostered pets.  DunRoamin’ helps us with that.

Saying goodbye isn’t always bad but it is always memorable.  Don’t let the future goodbyes keep you from saying hello.
