The Upper Valley Autism Resource Centre held a lovely open house party to celebrate their new location on April 5th.
The centre has moved into the building at 1143 West Riverside Drive (formerly home to Mark Johnson Law Office)

Staff and families alike are thrilled with UVARC’s new home, as it offers much more space for programs, and as the weather clears, will also have a fenced in yard out back for everyone to play in.
With this expanded space, UVARC is planning a lot more activities for the kids. The centre has been in existence for about 12 years, and serves families from Grand Falls to Woodstock. Clients include the entire autism spectrum, including Downs Syndrome and Asperger’s.

All families are welcome to participate in the Family Fun Days, Barbecues and programs that are offered throughout the year. There are a lot of different programs offered throughout the summer.
There are Arts & Crafts workshops, and private swimming lessons are available for children with autism.

Autism rates have been rising at an astronomical rate in recent years. Once a relatively rare condition, now one in every 68 kids is being diagnosed with autism in some form.

A wall for the kids to leave their hand print on makes the new centre their very own!

Autism awareness needs to be increased in order to deal with the issue more effectively. The official take is that no one knows why autism rates are rising and this needs to be addressed.

UVARC works with teens and adults as well as children, and offers many resources for all age groups. There is a lending library of educational books available in the centre, and there is a wonderful “Toy Library” where toys can be checked out and taken home.
The centre also hosts an annual Christmas Party, and a Social for Teens.

Stop in to visit the centre… you can purchase lovely jewelry to help raise both autism awareness and funds to build a jungle gym in the new playground!
