As any coach in any one of our community sports programs will tell you, it’s difficult to cover the many costs of managing and maintaining the teams. There are uniforms to purchase, entry fees for tournaments, travel costs, equipment…the list is endless! PAMs Varsity and JV Coach Jon Brain discussed this issue with the Perth Elks Club, and the Elks responded with a generous donation of $4,000.

As Jon explains, this money will cover the costs of both the girls Varsity and JV programs for an entire year. The generosity of this donation cannot be overstated. This money will be used to purchase uniforms for the teams and new balls and ball bags. It will also cover the costs of two Winter Slam Tournaments, and the cost of registration for three provincial tournaments. And, it will furthermore cover the daily operating costs for local tournaments and events.

This is a perfect example of community involvement and cooperation, a true partnership. This is the way our small communities grow and thrive …by recognizing and helping each other.

In return for this donation, the Elks will be honoured and recognized by having the club logo on banners and uniforms, and the teams themselves are proudly called the ELKS! Furthermore, the team members have committed to acting as the servers at the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at the Perth Elks Club…which you can help support by attending!

As our athletic teams and events are in constant need of funding this means our local businesses are constantly being solicited for donations. This one cheque from the Perth Elks means the PAMs will not need to solicit funds until next year, a huge boon and gift for the girls, and their coaches and parents!

Thank you to the Perth Elks and all club members for this donation. The service groups and clubs of our communities fund and support so many programs it is impossible to list them all. Show your support for our service clubs by donating generously, or consider joining yourself!

Many hands make light work, they say, and it is absolutely true. Together, we create our village. Support it, love it and Happy Valentine’s Day to all!
