Everyone loves a nice back rub, but therapeutic massage is also one of the greatest gifts you can give your body and your health.

Melinda Millard is a Registered Massage Therapist who offers a variety of therapies in her office and clinic which is located in the back of the Tobique Ultramar in Perth-Andover.

She graduated with honours from the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage in Fredericton in 2006. The course was a 2,200 hour program taken over a year and a half. Students are required to learn all about the mechanics of the human body as they take classes in anatomy, biology and pathological physiology.

The course also requires many hours of hands on training in massage clinics with clients so graduating therapists have had plenty of practice before they receive their diplomas!

Melinda opened her clinic in the Ultramar in January of 2007 and says ‘I have been a massage therapist for seven years now and I can honestly say that I love my job. It is never boring or monotonous, and treatment for each individual client is different so even though I am always providing massage, it is never the same. My job is helping people and it doesn’t get any better or more rewarding than that!”

I stopped in to meet Melinda recently, and to find out more about the therapies she offers to her clients which include:
Therapeutic Massage
CranioSacral Therapy
Pregnancy Massage
Sports Massage
Kinesio Taping
ETPS Therapy

Many people think of massage as a self- indulgent luxury, but it doesn’t just feel good… massage therapy heals the body, mind and spirit in many ways. It can be transformative for many people who suffer from stress, inflammation, chronic pain, the after effects of physical trauma and more.

As an example, Melinda shared the story of a client who came to her in desperation. This mature lady had endured chronic lower back and hip pain for many years and was resigned to the idea that she would suffer from this for the rest of her life.

During the first visit, Melinda worked on her back only, which offered temporary relief from the pain. During this client’s second visit, however, Melinda discovered a hard knot of scar tissue on her upper thigh from a burn she had suffered as an infant.

Melinda began work on this old scar and to the client’s utter amazement the pain was relieved.
This scar tissue, which had been there since her infancy, had affected her hamstring muscle. As the years passed this had altered her skeletal alignment which ultimately manifested as the severe pain that she had endured for years.

Massaging this old scar allowed her body to straighten up, which relieved the strain on her lower back.
This client now sees Melinda once a month for a maintenance massage and has remained free of the pain she’d experienced for years.

Massage therapy can offer some clients what seems to be almost miraculous relief from chronic pain and discomfort.

Melinda is a member of the Association of New Brunswick massage Therapists so she offers direct billing to clients with Blue Cross coverage. Clients who have been injured in vehicular accidents are usually covered by their auto insurance as well.

Melinda’ s clinic is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 am-4:30 pm and on Tuesday evenings 4:30-8:30 pm.
