Local folks have been stepping up to the plate with some great new ideas for ways to revitalize our local communities, and to repurpose flood prone land in Perth-Andover.
At the most recent council meeting in Perth, Dilys Sabine presented her thoughts on creating a local Equestrian Centre in Andover.

Many communities have local equestrian centres, and they have proven to be tremendous assets for these communities.

An equestrian centre would benefit the village in many ways, both tangibly and spiritually. Kids and adults of all abilities would be able to ride, look after and interact with the animals. Horses provide therapeutic interaction for children and adults with disabilities.

It would involve the whole community, even if all people do is look at the horses! It would provide employment for trainers, managers, instructors, groomers and stable hands as well as provide great opportunities for volunteers to work with the animals.
Local farmers would be involved as they could provide feed and bedding for the animals.
Local gardeners would benefit by having a steady supply of horse manure available!

An equestrian centre would boost tourism and attract visitors to equestrian events. There are many beautiful trails already in existence in Perth-Andover, just begging to be used for more community activities.

Money for this operation would be generated from stable rentals, boarding, riding lessons, memberships, trail rides, buggy rides, hay rides, and shows and events. The centre would also house a tack shop for equipment, clothing and accessories.

Some communities with equestrian centres use the grounds for fairs and other events, as well as horse related functions.
The Bairdsville NB/PEI Barrel Racing Club has been in existence for 40 years, and members of this club believe an equestrian centre would make their club stronger. They already have many kids begging for a chance to take riding lessons.

If you like this idea, or have ideas of your own please share them with community and council….together we can rebuild and revitalize our villages!
