A new audiology clinic is opening in Perth-Andover. Devon Taaffe is a bi-lingual licensed audiologist who opened his first clinic in Saint John two and a half years ago.
He saw a need for a local hearing clinic, and so plans to open this office on a part time basis, and will increase hours as the need grows in the community.
As an audiologist, Devon specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss.

I stopped in to meet Devon last week and get the low- down on this new clinic. He was still in the moving in stage, but he graciously gave me a tour and took the time to explain to me the details of the services that he offers. In fact, Devon was an absolute fountain of information…he loves his work and is up to date and well informed on all the latest technology and options for addressing hearing loss.

There are 3 types of hearing loss. There is conductive loss, where there is a problem with the sound reaching the inner ear. Wax build up is one cause of conductive hearing loss, or damage to the ear drum or ear bones can also cause this kind of hearing impairment.
Sensory neural damage is the second type of hearing loss. This can be caused by noise damage, age or certain medications.
The third type of hearing loss is mixed…a combination of factors cause hearing impairment.

Devon deals with hearing loss only, not disease, so any sign of pain or redness requires a visit to your doctor.

However, hearing aid technology has come a very long way since the first hearing aids were developed. They have become tiny, discreet and much more efficient….no one needs to wear those big beige bananas behind their ears anymore!

Modern hearing aids contain digital processing chips that are able to process data in order to make instantaneous adjustments to your audio needs.
Devon also carries all types of accessories that the hearing impaired might require. The Pocket Talker is a high powered amplifier for folks who don’t want to get a hearing aid, but who would like to amplify sound.
Clarity Phones are convenient for folks who just want to hear better on the phone…they provide increased volume, a large display screen and large buttons for the visually impaired.
TV Ears are a nifty rechargeable wireless device that are just to enable the wearer to hear the television better without turning the volume up. A higher end model of this product also includes a Pocket Talker.
These kinds of accessories offer a less expensive ways to deal with hearing loss.

All hearing aids and accessories at Fundy Audioogy are zero tax, and, because they are medical devices are tax deductible.
