These oilskin outerwear garments are made by the Outback Company. They are quality products that are constructed from fabric that is both water repellent and breathable. I found a wonderful rain poncho that I added to my wish list!
30 years ago I owned a terrific rubberized fabric rain poncho. It was the most useful rain garment I’ve ever possessed….it slipped on easily no matter what kind of clothing I was wearing, whether it was just a tee shirt or a thick winter coat and it fit over any backpack or camera equipment I might be lugging around.
It eventually just wore out, and I’ve looked for a replacement ever since. Because it was a poncho, it was far easier to put on and to wear than a rain coat.

But if a rain poncho is not your cup of tea, there’s also a full line of oilskin jackets and pants as well. And, Outback makes one of the slickest rain jackets I’ve ever seen….the rain coat folds up within itself into a self – contained backpack!
Bob Davenport was kind enough to model this dandy garment for me, and Marty demonstrated how easily it went from being a little backpack to a rain coat in about 5 seconds.

It’s a very nice jacket, too, with plenty of pockets and it comes in several colours. How many times have you been out for a hike or whatever, and the weather changes and you suddenly need a light waterproof jacket.
Or, you’re wearing a jacket and the sun pops out and now you are overdressed and are way too hot to boot…. So you take off your jacket but you don’t have any way to carry it conveniently.
This little number takes care of those problems, and, there’s even a little room inside when it’s a backpack for small items like wallets or gloves.
This would make a really handy gift for anyone. Christmas will be upon us before we know it and how nice it is to give, or get, something that is actually useful!

Other nifty gift items I found were a set of handsome Browning Firearm Company pint glasses, in a set of four, each embossed with a different colourful picture. There were Browning Company coffee mugs, too, sure to please any hunter or outdoor enthusiast you might know.
And I really have to mention the camouflage socks…these beauties come in both pink camo for the gals, and green camo for the guys and are a quality blend of moisture wicking merino wool and long wearing nylon. These socks would make great stocking stuffers!

Chris and Marty began waving some tee shirts at me that featured pictures of guys who looked an awful lot like ZZ Top, only not so sharply dressed. These shirts didn’t do much for me personally, but Marty and Chris assured me that Duck Dynasty…which is what the tee shirts were depicting… was the hottest thing going. I don’t own a television, so I’d missed the whole Duck Dynasty phenomenon.
A brief little bout of googling has revealed to me the amazing story of how Phil Robertson created the Duck Commander duck call in 1972 in his back yard shed in Louisiana. The following year, he incorporated the business and it has now grown into Duck Dynasty….nearly everyone who works for the company is a member of the family, which has made a fortune from selling these duck calls…and they now are the stars of one of the most popular reality shows on TV. What an astonishing world we live in!

Marty’s is an electrical supply place too, of course…and carries all kinds of electrical and plumbing parts, pieces and accessories.
The store stocks Klein brand tools, a variety of power tools and hand tools. There’s a great assortment of Leatherman Tools, too…. these are quality gadgets that every person, from mechanics to housewives, will find useful. And Marty’s prices for these tools are some of the cheapest you will find!
Marty’s Electric carries radon detectors, and is certified to inspect and tag fire extinguishers.

As if this isn’t all enough, you can buy your tickets here for the Perth Legion and Elks Club 50/50 Draw, and pick up some of that delicious natural and raw honey from the Nyborg and Crawford Apiaries!
The store is also an authorized agent for Purolator Courier, and don’t forget the car wash next door where you can wash your car yourself or get a full service detailed cleaning.

Stop by at 832 Perth Main Street, or give the store a call at 273-4361.
