Another DunRoamin’ Success Story!

Lucy was adopted last week. Although we miss her, I am certain that she is in a place where she will continue to thrive and grow.

Lucy was one of the Desert Dogs that came to DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue from the hoarding situation in California. She was a real doll! She had a quiet, serious face with a wrinkled brow. She always looked like she was worrying about something.

At first, she had reason to worry. Her life was not good. Although the place she came to was good and she was treated well, Lucy wasn’t relaxed. She spooked easily which resulted in her bolting and spending a terrible week just out of the reach of her rescuers. She didn’t know that all they wanted to do was help her. How could she? She didn’t have a great experience with people in the past.

Fortunately for Lucy, there was a dedicated group of people who made it their mission to bring her home.

That was how Lucy came to be with us. We had just said good-bye to Martin, Lucy’s brother, after he was adopted and Lucy seemed a pretty good fit.

It took some time to get her to relax but finally she did! She fell in love with the “man in the house” and followed him everywhere. She played hard with Buster and chased Chrissie around the yard until Chrissie would turn and tell her “enough!” She stopped trying to escape and thrived on her daily walks and love and attention. She was coming out of her shell beautifully.

Then comes the hard part of fostering; someone else noticed how great Lucy was and wanted her! We cried saying good-bye that day. It’s hard but so worth it. I know that we all had a hand in making Lucy comfortable and happy. Will we do it again – absolutely!
