Please Help Keep the Shelter Open

The following quote about animal rescue workers was found online and forwarded to me by a friend and colleague. I could have said it better myself. We are human. We try our best, and yes – sometimes we make mistakes, or misspeak or use the wrong tone of voice. And most certainly, we have to say “No”- sometimes more often than even we think is fair. It’s a word people do not like to hear (I don’t like to say it or hear it.)

When you see us out around town, soliciting for help, please keep in mind that we’re doing our best for something that we believe in. I wish we could always say the right things, smile at the right time, and say “Yes” to every request.

More than that, I wish our duties were not required. I wish animal shelters were not a necessity, wish that they would be deemed obsolete because there were no unwanted cats and dogs that needed food, shelter, safety and warmth.

I apologize if along the way we were not able to meet your needs with this stray cat or that roaming dog.I apologize if you had a bad experience with part of our team.

We are trying to do our best, but I know that there is so much more to do, and that sometimes our best is not good enough.

If I could ask one thing, it would be to remember that when we ask for help we are not asking for ourselves. We are just a voice for the cats and dogs that cannot ask for help themselves. It is all about the animals, and nothing else.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record….the Arthurette Animal Shelter needs your help. Please consider volunteering at the shelter, donating to the auction, buying raffle tickets, selling raffle tickets, joining the board, anything.

Every effort is appreciated. No contribution is too small. Just this week we took in several new kittens and a dog that were left abandoned on our door step. They need a secure, warm place to stay. It’s starting to get cold at night and soon the cats that were managing on their own won’t be able to.

I am not above begging here…..please help us keep the shelter open.

” Rescuers, rescue supporters and volunteers do not walk on water. We don’t wear capes and tights or leap tall buildings. We aren’t better than anyone else, but we do pursue a cause that we believe makes us better than we were before we started. We make mistakes; we feel we can’t do enough; we go broke; we have too many dogs at home; we rant out of frustration; we lose our tempers and get snappy; we have to reject people sometimes for the good of a dog.We are not always likeable. What we do is draining, emotionally, financially, and physically. Please bear with us and forgive us our flaws, because we are doing work that’s bigger than we are.”
